Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How Does The Credit Counselling Program Work?

A Credit Counsellor interviews the individual or family on a personal and confidential basis. Full information on the family's financial picture is obtained, including income, living expenses, debt amounts, payment dates, etc. The financial situation is discussed, problems are analyzed and alternatives considered.

Some applicants only require budgeting or credit guidance. Some require the help of a counsellor to arrange a satisfactory solution with creditors. Others may require a Debt Management Program (DMP), based on their ability to pay. The individual or family regularly deposits money with the Agency for distribution to their creditors.

Whether the debts are the result of illness, employment difficulties, reduced income or poor money management, once a person is in a complicated credit situation, getting out without assistance may be nearly impossible. The stress and worry a debtor experiences can cause further problems - sometimes threatening his/her job, home life and even physical and mental health. Problems which are new to you are not new to us. We have heard them before and we have helped to solve them. Through us thousands of individuals and families have found the most satisfactory solution to their financial problems.
